AERO was founded in 1987 by a group of individuals from the three Arizona universities, the Arizona Department of Education, and several school districts, who agreed that Arizona should have its own state organization.
The original purpose of the organization was to produce quality interaction among educators at public schools and universities. Current AERO members come from public and private schools, community colleges and universities, and both private and government agencies. These individuals are interested in coming together to examine and discuss the pressing education issues in the state.
